last night I dreamt that somebody loved me | the smiths
haven’t posted a cover in ages. recorded this today because I was crazy bored - couldn’t be arsed to set up my sm57 mic and compressor, so this just demonstrates how crappy my laptop mic is and how much I need a better soundcard. HOWEVUH I had a lot of fun recording it on kristal and adding ridiculous amounts of reverb to soften the hiss and also because making it sound like I’m singing in a cathedral gives me an ego boost or something. so basically a) I know it sounds shit and b) I don’t care

SO THIS IS GREAT: tom remixed one of my crappy little recordings/the last song I wrote and posted on here, and I told him to butcher it but he actually made it sound really nice in a totally melodramatic way with lots of swooning violins, even though it’s horribly out of time. so, voila -

don’t you | nina
been working on this song for a couple of weeks, but I’m FINALLY done tweaking with it. phew. quite happy with how it sounds too, I recorded it in a lot less time than usual and I now think that the less time I spend trying to perfect little details, the better it turns out

towers | bon iver
been working on this for a while and I couldn’t get it to sound how I wanted, I’d rather it had more guitar and stuff but HEY still pretty happy with it despite that

the good things, fast | nina
I wrote this a few weeks ago and was recording it normally, then I figured out how to fiddle with the tempo of a track so I sped up the main vocal/guitar track and IT SOUNDS FUNNY it’s better than chipmunking because it’s actually listenable but it sounds autotuned pahaha

decay | nina
a lovely anon asked that I post this, which I wrote about a year ago, so I found my old recording and added a second vocal track because it needed fleshing out a bit. excuse the msn jingle near the end, haha

as his lips turned blue | nina
wrote this last week, haven’t figured out any secondary parts but I’m pretty happy with it. please let me know what you thiiiiiink because I haven’t even played it to anyone so I’ve had absolutely zero feedback and it would be super useful to know if it’s worth working on a bit more or wut

asleep | the smiths
just recorded this, oddly with no harmonies/double tracking/interesting things like that, only my slightly croaky voice. this is possibly one of my favourite songs in the world ummmm yep

the pact (I’ll be your fever) | villagers
absolutely in love with this song and their whole album, which rhiannon gave me for christmas because she’s brilliant
the harmonies on this are unprecise and a little wobbly because I am feeling extra lazy today (not so lazy I can’t do twenty retakes on double tracked vocals, but wtv) but wtv

born to die | lana del rey
of course I was going to butcher a lana del rey song, it was only a matter of time
pretty happy with this but I was thinking of trying some effecty guitar (courtesy of garageband input settings) and I was stuck between ‘double filter’ and ‘dreamy shimmer’ because they sound like NOISES IN SPACE but then I realised that either way I’d just sound like a complete tosser, so I didn’t. cool story

everything goes my way | metronomy (unfinished)
uhhh yeah I started recording this cover then I forgot about it and I just listened back to it and I’m happy with most of it but then my harmonies go WRONG so I just chopped the end off. sorry it’s a bit abrupt
genuinely too lazy to re-record it oooOOoOoOoOoooOoOoOoo

swear upon you | nina
yep yep finally finished working on this one, it took a while. I’ve detuned my guitar down a semitone or two so that’s why it sounds jangly but I kinda like it, and it’s more comfortable to sing to. ummmm yeah I wrote it to this thing I recorded a while ago, just changed the melody and … pretty much everything apart from the chord structures, haha um I’m bad at explaining, just listen to it
and tell me what you think plz because I am sorely lacking in second/third/fourth opinions
Post with 2 notes
been writing something possibly halfway decent for the first time in AGES but every time I try to record it it takes me about thirty goes of getting about halfway through until a guitar string sounds too jangly or I stutter or forget something and then I just smash my face on the keyboard and give up

uhhhh this is an instrumental I’ve been working on because I can’t fit lyrics to it, so I’ve recorded a couple of layers out of boredom and resisted the urge to put a swooshy ‘live acoustic’ effect on … feedback would really really really be appreciated because idk if I should work on this or if it’s shit or what
my ask is here just in case anyone gives a tiny rat’s ass

lullaby singer | anna nalick
you know that thing where you love a song so much you have to absolutely butcher it on guitar and make everyone listen to it
anyway, sorry for having a croaky voice. if you like it please let me know here and if you don’t then that’s cool too, go and have a cup of tea instead
